February 9, 2004 For Immediate Release
(CALGARY, AB) -- Dynastream Innovations Inc. is pleased to announce its collaboration with Suunto, the leading manufacturer of wrist-top computers and other sports instruments.
Dynastream in collaboration with Suunto have developed a new 2.4GHz transmission protocol. ANT is an innovative new approach to RF communication that fills a niche in Personal Area Network applications. It is a sophisticated two-way protocol that is capable of providing dependable high integrity data links on hardware platforms that are a fraction of the cost and power of conventional 2.4 GHz protocols. This inventive new protocol allows for multiple accessories to connect and communicate with the system, and each accessory can communicate over more than one channel allowing for very flexible network topologies.
“ANT is yet another leading edge platform technology developed by Dynastream,” said Kip Fyfe, President and CEO, Dynastream Innovations Inc. “We are proud of our working relationship with Suunto, and to partner with them to create leading edge products and technologies.”
Suunto is launching its first product incorporating ANT technology in the release of Suunto t6. Suunto t6 assesses your current fitness level, helps you set the right training load for yourself and tells you what you actually gain from the exercise. Unlike conventional heart rate monitors that only measure the heart rate, Suunto t6 measures the time interval between heartbeats and its variation. From this precise data the PC software of Suunto t6 calculates seven different body parameters and tells you in a simple and easy way how your condition is developing. The fact that you can now measure the real training effect as you exercise, opens new ways for athletes of every level to optimize their physical training.
Suunto is using ANT technology in the Suunto t6 product to communicate the data collected by the heart rate monitor to a wrist-top computer based analysis and display. “ANT is well suited for the Suunto t6” said Eero Punkka, Suunto’s Director of Research and Development. “Every 200 milliseconds chest strap sensor information is transmitted to the wrist unit which results in a very reliable and accurate monitoring system. No heart beat is missed, no detail about the heart beat is missed. And what makes it even more beautiful, in the future Suunto t6 will communicate with wireless accessories to measure other important data in sports.”
